More points and progress for Tunstall

Doodson Superstock racer Tom Tunstall notched up more points on the board, with a hard earned 13th place at Thruxton.

The 2.35 mile track in Hampshire is the fastest in the UK, and the grippy and undulating surface demands a unique bike set up. Putting into practice the lessons learnt from the previous outing at Brands Hatch, the Doodson Motorsport team focussed on optimising the Kawasaki ZX-10R race bike from the first laps of free practice.

The continual modifications paid dividends with a 17th place on the grid for Sunday's 16 lap race.

A great start and opening lap gave Tunstall 15th before he was drafted on the back straight ending lap two in 17th.  Fighting back to 16th on lap three then 15th on lap four he set about closing down the pack ahead.

With a four second gap to bridge, the Yorkshireman worked hard, catching and passing Johnny Blackshaw just before the penultimate lap, crossing the line in a season's best 13th place and taking more championship points.

Tunstall explained:
"I'm really pleased with the race and how we worked as a team this weekend. Our experience is paying off, on both the bike and the Superstock class, specifically how to work best with the limited track time. We've made another step forward this weekend with much more to come. I can't wait to get to Oulton!"

The Superstock 1000 class is the hardest fought class and this year lap records are being smashed. Thruxton race winner Lee Jackson's best lap was within half a second of the fastest Superbike lap of the day!

At the midway point in the 2014 season, the championship heads to Oulton Park in Cheshire this weekend 8th-10th August.
