Set-up woes for Tunstall

The British Superbike Championships annual visit "north of the border" to Knockhill in Fife always challenges the teams and riders making the trip, with a combination of a uniquely tight and undulating track and the infamously unpredictable weather.

The Doodson Motorsport team headed to Knockhill with no experience or data to suit their Kawasaki Superstock machine, and the first track session didn't fare well with minor technical issues and bad gearing advice giving Tunstall and the team little track time and feedback to work from.

The second session was the first qualifying and with the gearing improved the lap times followed suit, however suspension issues with corner entry and lack of rear grip limiting pace.
Saturday's second qualifying was held just minutes after a rain shower left the track completely wet, consequently it was impossible to either improve lap time, or test revised settings on the bike. Tunstall's Friday time was only 0.8 from third but left him in 24th position on the grid, and with a lot of work.

Heading into Sunday's 24-lap race the changes that were planned for Q2 were dialled into the bike with modifications to the gearing as well as front and rear suspension.
However it was clear from the off that the issues were far from solved with Tunstall unable to make much headway and crossing the line in 20th.

Tunstall explained:
"I can't remember working so hard on a bike for so little reward!..
The lack of data and track-time around Knockhill, and effectively missing Q2 really hurt us. In the race I was fighting the bike to get it into the corner then the rear was spinning so easy on the exit. The changes we made didn't give me a bike I was able to do much with today.

With the cards we were dealt it's not been as easy weekend and the class is so tight that you don't have to be far off to get punished. We'll learn from it, move forward, and there's no reason why we can't bounce back stronger at Brands."

The fifth round takes the series back to Brands Hatch but this time utilising the popular Grand Prix layout over the weekend 18th-20th July.
