Tunstall Makes His Point!

Doodson Motorsport racer Tom Tunstall took his first championship points of the season over the weekend, in the latest round of the British Superstock 1000 Championship at Brands Hatch.

The team headed to Brands Hatch in upbeat mood after having resolved a technical issue discovered the last time out at Knockhill.

The popular 2.4mile Grand Prix circuit layout combines the tight challenges of the Indy circuit with the fast flowing nature of the woodland section. Tunstall started the weekend well, however a front suspension issue led to him qualifying in 23rd for Sunday's 16 lap race.

The team worked on the settings, but with the limited track time it took till Sunday morning's 8 minute "warm-up" session for the changes to pay off.  Finishing with a time faster than qualifying, that placed him 9th in session.

The Yorkshireman launched off the line well but was baulked in the opening corners and ended lap one back in 26th. Despite getting embroiled in a five rider dog fight he managed to work his way back up the pack to his fastest time of the race on the final lap.  Winning back 9 places he took the flag in 17th. However, technical checks to bikes after the race found infringements on two competitors' machines elevating Tunstall to 15th.

Tunstall summed up:
"I'm happy to be back in the points and will be building on them for the rest of the season. It's encouraging to see that the rules are being enforced in such a tight class. We've learnt more this weekend on both the Superstock class and the new bike and will continue to build on our experience in the coming rounds. I'm really looking forward to Thruxton in a couple of weeks to get more points on the board".

The sixth round of the 2014 championship is held over the weekend of the August 1st-3rd at the ultra fast Thruxton circuit in Hampshire.
